Songfacts®:

  • The lead single and title track of Haven't Seen It Yet, Danny Gokey wrote this song for people dealing with disappointment in an effort to give them hope.
  • Have you been praying and you still have no answers?
Have you been pouring out your heart for so many years?
Have you been hoping that things would have changed by now?
Have you cried all the faith you have through so many tears?

Gokey is speaking from personal experience. Four years after he married his high school sweetheart, Sophia Martinez, she died from complications during surgery to treat her congenital heart disease.

Instead of resorting to drink and drugs to escape his heartbreak, Gokey put his energies into starting a foundation in his late wife's name, Sophia's Heart Foundation. He also found love again and married Leyicet Peralta three-and-a-half years after losing Sophia.
  • Don't forget the things that He has done before
And remember He can do it all once more

Gokey explained to Billboard that he wrote the song to encourage those people going through the dark times not to give up hope and push on through.

Said Gokey: "I was a widower and now I'm married again, but there are many who try to escape the pain of losing a spouse by doing bad things like drugs. So this song is for those people - not just widows and widowers - to give them hope. If you've been praying for a long time and haven't found the answer, you're gonna need to look at all the good things that God has done. What you feel now many not be the truest, and God is not finished with you yet."
