  • This song is about the implausible conviction that no matter where you are, or what you are doing, nothing means much without "the one." >>>

  • This is one of two tracks - the other being "You Never Know" - from Busted Stuff that wasn't borrowed from DMB's abandoned project, The Lillywhite Sessions. Steve Lillywhite produced the band's first three albums, including the acclaimed Before These Crowded Streets, but the magic wasn't happening during the 2000 sessions, or so the band thought. They scrapped their would-be fourth album, trading Lillywhite for Jagged Little Pill mastermind Glen Ballard, resulting in Everyday. Meanwhile, songs from The Lillywhite Sessions were leaked onto the Internet, which Matthews called "a huge violation." But, the buzz around the unfinished tracks prompted the band to revisit the tunes, which formed the basis for Busted Stuff. The band, however, didn't reunite with Lillywhite; they enlisted their longtime engineer Stephen Harris to helm the album.
  • This was included on the soundtrack to the 2002 comedy Mr. Deeds, starring Adam Sandler. It was also used on the TV show Bionic Woman in the 2007 episode "Do Not Disturb."

  • Frank from Cambridge, MaI hear it as the singer is trying comfort his troubled lover who is retreating into a inner world he can't see and tries to understand. Perhaps the suggestion is that, we all experience this inherent lonliness of our subjective world. He's trying to see into this world, but can only get so close, which is part of the human condition. None of us are supermen. Perhaps the positive message of caring, loyalty and just being there for someone for reasons that can't be expressed is even more important in some way.
  • Matt from Chicago, IlOn Storyteller, Dave talks about how the meaning of this song could have changed, if you linked it to 9/11. He said music is like art, once you show it off... everyone owns it, and can interpurit for themselves.
  • Joshua from Cincinnati, Ohthis song is about following the one that you love
