Songfacts®:

  • This song is a collaboration between David Gilmour and his author wife Polly Samson. Inspired by a character from the novel A Theatre for Dreamers, it features in the audiobook along with other original music by the Pink Floyd guitarist and vocalist.
  • A synopsis for the book, which came out on April 2, 2020, reads: "Set on the idyllic Greek island of Hydra in 1960, A Theatre for Dreamers captures the hazy, sun-drenched days of an expat bohemian community of poets, painters, and musicians. In Samson's fifth work of fiction, the characters live tangled lives that are ruled by their king and queen, writers Charmain Clift and George Johnston."
  • Polly Samson co-wrote the song. A longtime collaborator with her husband, she wrote the lyrics to five of his Rattle That Lock cuts including the title track and the Pink Floyd number "Louder Than Words."
  • Gilmour was working on the song just as the UK went into the COVID-19 lockdown, so he had to cancel a session with backing singers. As it turned out, the Gilmours' harpist daughter, Romany, was quarantining with her parents at the time, so they asked her to contribute harp and additional vocals. He said: "I couldn't be happier with the way Romany's voice blends with mine and her beautiful harp playing has been another revelation."
