Songfacts®:

  • By now, you might think David Guetta has run out of ways to make the world dance. After all, this is the man who's launched more dancefloor revolutions than most countries have had governments: from the emotional detonation of "Titanium" to the gleeful chaos of "Hey Mama." But along comes "Gone Gone Gone," and suddenly Guetta is doing something few expected: slowing the BPM, dimming the strobes, and reaching for a brass section.
  • Teaming up with American powerhouse Teddy Swims and Australian singer-songwriter Tones And I, Guetta trades his neon synths for a palette of retro soul and funk, all shot through with gospel fervor and cinematic brass flourishes. It's as if "When Love Takes Over" wandered into a 1970s Muscle Shoals session and decided to stay for the groove.
  • Teddy Swims and Tones And I sing about the chaos and addiction of a toxic love; the push-and-pull dynamic of wanting someone most when they're gone. They're both very emotive singers who can sell that story quite well.
  • Guetta wrote the song with several collaborators, including his longtime creative partner Giorgio Tuinfort, frequent Swims collaborator Julian Bunetta, the British trio TMS (Little Mix's "Wings," Lewis Capaldi's "Someone You Loved") and Benson Boone collaborator Jack LaFrantz.
  • The track began life with Teddy Swims in mind. "When we first made the very first demo, we were thinking of you (Teddy Swims)," Guetta recalled. "Then I was gonna work with her (Tones And I), and I'm like, 'Oh, she's gonna kill it,' and we got back all together."
  • The Tones And I sessions took place in May 2025, with Swims' vocals added later. By the time "Gone Gone Gone" dropped on October 10, 2025, Guetta was celebrating being crowned DJ Mag's World's #1 DJ for the fifth time.
