  • When Chicago native David Kushner posted a raw version of this somber guitar ballad to TikTok, he promised his followers he would release the song if it received 5,000 comments. Instead, it went viral as users responded to its theme of escapism. Within a short period, over 52,000 people had posted videos featuring the lyrics:

    All we wanted
Was a place to feel like home
    That's why we parted
From our ways to heal our souls
    I'm a small-town miserable man

Kushner released "Miserable Man" through EQT Recordings and Virgin Records on January 7, 2022. It debuted on the singles charts worldwide.
  • Atlanta-based singer-songwriter Abe Parker produced the song. The Asbury graduate became a full-time musician after winning a contest to open for Andy Grammer in one of his shows. He later worked with various faith-based artists, including Andy Mineo, David Crowder, and Lecrae on lyric and sonic production. Parker signed a recording contract with Virgin Records in 2021.
