Songfacts®:

  • Ben Gibbard's vocals sound more bare here as possibly any other song in Death Cab's catalogue. It was producer Rich Costey who suggested the minimal instrumentation. Gibbard explained to Digital Spy: "It was one of the first songs I wrote for this album. The demo I turned in was fairly sparse as well and Rich said he felt it just needed to be a vocal on a guitar, so I did that in just one performance."

"Making an album can get very complicated and there can be a lot of overthinking things and underthinking things, but at the end of the day it gives me great comfort to just sit down with a guitar and have that be something on the album."
