Songfacts®:

  • In Michael Heatley's authoritative monograph The Complete Deep Purple, original bass player Nic Simper said of this track: "The management had a studio booked as soon as we'd finalized the lineup, before we'd written a song or anything."

They "kicked around" the song, vocalist Rod Evans put some words to it, and they sorted the chords in a couple of days.
  • The uptempo "Love Help Me" is credited to Ritchie Blackmore and Rod Evans and is Track 7 on the debut Shades Of... album wherein it runs to 3 minutes 49 seconds. Its most noticeable features are Simper's heavy bassline and Blackmore's use of wah-wah, something he has used, but rarely, in his half century and more of recording, another exception being "Why Didn't Rosemary?" from The Third Album. >>>
