Mistreated

Album: Burn (1974)

Songfacts®:

  • This track, which runs to nearly 7 and a half minutes, is a highlight of the Deep Purple Mark III lineup. A Ritchie Blackmore / David Coverdale composition, it appears that Blackmore wrote the music some years before, but it never found its way onto the Machine Head album, which featured lead vocalist Ian Gillan in the Mark II lineup.
  • Those who know David Coverdale from Whitesnake may be surprised to hear him singing this raw, bluesy track. In the song, he's cold and lonely, wailing over a woman who mistreated him badly.
  • Like the rest of the Burn album, "Mistreated" was recorded at Montreaux, Switzerland in November 1973. >>

  • George Pope from Vancouver BcI heard the lyrics "I've been mistreated" & my only thought was, "Yeah, buddy, join the club." &, yes, I figured it was about an ex woman of his.
  • Valentine Adonee from Strawberry Fields ForeverIf not for the bunch of subpar songs that constitute the album (bar the title one, which I really like) - I would dismiss this one as too generic. Yet, aside from Coverdale's whining, it's a great song with mighty guitar.
