  • This brass-laden empowering pop anthem finds Demi Lovato taking control. The singer explained to MTV News why she named her Confident album after the song. "Whenever I make an album and try to think of a name," she said. "I always look to the track list and what song represents this album the most, and not only did it represent my entire album, but it represented where I am in my life, so it was a very, very easy choice."
  • Justin Bieber has also recorded a song titled "Confident." The Canadian star's tribute to a confident girl was the final track released from his 'Music Mondays' series.
  • The song's music clip was directed by Robert Rodriguez in Austin, Texas and features Fast and The Furious star Michelle Rodriguez, and From Dusk Till Dawn actor Jeff Fahey. "I was so impressed by Demi's fearless performance as a guest star on my TV series From Dusk Till Dawn that I jumped at the chance to direct her video," said Rodriguez. "I basically treated this like we were shooting a high octane action film, because she has the presence and star power to pull it off. She's incredible."
  • Demi Lovato spoke about the song's empowering message in a video clip. "The pre-chorus says it best, where it says, 'You've had me underrated.' I've wanted to shout that from the top of my lungs for years now," she said. "I have never been confident enough in my own skin to feel sexy. Now that I'm feeling great and I feel confident, I'm proud of the skin that I'm in."

"I'm wanting to share that with the world and showing everyone how you can go from being very insecure with body image issues to feeling so proud of your body that you want to show it to the world," Lovato continued.
  • An instrumental version of this song soundtracked a 2016 commercial for Paypal that debuted during the Super Bowl between the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos.
  • Demi Lovato released a rock version of "Confident" on August 18, 2023. She recorded "Confident (Rock Version)" for Revamped, a 10-song collection of amped-up interpretations of her hit songs.
