  • Nashville singer-songwriter Derek Hoke told the Songfacts podcast he wanted his Electric Mountain album to include the various influences that make him excited about music. "I wanna make a record incorporating all the things that I love in there without putting them all into one song at a time."

For this tune, which features vocals from alt-folk artist Thayer Sarrano, that meant writing a different kind of blues song.

"'Got Money' is basically a blues song that has no guitar solos and that's something I'm super proud of," Hoke explained in a track-by-track commentary. "It's a BB King type of tune but instead of electric guitars we have synthesizers and Thayer Sarrano's in the background doing some breathy stuff… doing something new with something that's been done a million times. I have everything in the world but if you're gone, I have nothing - but how do you do that without playing a sweet blues guitar solo and I think we achieved that."
  • Producer Dex Green plays the Mellotron, organ, Wurlitzer electric piano, and Roland Juno-106 synthesizer on the track. It also features Chris Donohue (Indigo Girls, Lauren Daigle) on bass, Bryan Owings (Emmylou Harris, Flying Burrito Brothers) on drums, and Joe Pisapia (Guster, k.d. lang and the Siss Boom Bang) on pedal steel.
