  • This song has an unenviable claim to fame; in May 2006 it topped a listeners' poll on BBC DJ Marc Riley's show for the worst lyrics of all time. The really offending part appears to have been the second half of the first verse:

    I don't want to see a ghost
    It's the sign that I fear most
    I'd rather have a piece of toast
    And watch the evening news


    Still, the song spent nearly three months in the UK charts and was a #1 hit in parts of Europe. It was in good company; songs by U2, Oasis and Duran Duran also made the Top 10 in the poll. >>
