Songfacts®:

  • This song contains a number of powerful images about the meaning of love. Dido explained to the BBC News: "I guess the basic concept is the world's a better place with love than it is without, but there's a whole lot of stuff to get to that point."
  • This song has been misunderstood by many, who have interpreted it as about a heartless woman's desire for her man to get up and go home before she awakes after a night of passion. Dido told BBC News that the track is, "fast turning into one of the more misunderstood songs of my career." She added: "The fact that I never truly explain what a song is about means that I feel very unlimited in what I put in. I think it is mainly journalists who want to work your life out from your songs."
  • The album cover features a photograph of astronaut Bruce McCandless floating in space. Dido told BBC News that the image inspired the CD's title, Safe Trip Home. She explained: "The picture on the front of the album is one of my favorite pictures and has been for quite a few years. I often just stare at it and imagine what it would be like to just be floating free in space - there wasn't too much rational thought that went into it, it was more of a sort of emotional thing."
  • The album was recorded at the home of Dido's co-producer, the Los Angeles-based songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Jon Brion. The English singer-songwriter told BBC News that she recorded most of her vocals in a broom cupboard. She explained: "He suggested the shower first and I didn't like the sound in there and then I found this little closet in the corridor and I was like, 'well can I do it in here,' and it was fantastic. I had to squeeze in and it was very dusty, but actually it's sort of come out on the record and I love that."
