Songfacts®:

  • Bentley explained during a Q&A following the screening of his Dierks Bentley: Riser documentary how the commercial failure of the album's lead single, "Bourbon in Kentucky," helped pave the way for this song. "Bourbon", he said, "totally died" as a radio single. "It was too heavy. It was a little dark. We knew we were taking the chance, and it didn't work."

The launch of Riser was pushed back from the fall of 2013 to February 2014 enabling Bentley to include some lighter tunes. "I ended up being able to inject that summertime, who I really am," he said. "I love to have a good time. The record was missing that. So much of that got injected into the record with songs like 'Drunk on a Plane,' 'Sounds of Summer,' and 'Pretty Girls.'"
