Songfacts®:

  • "Red Light Green Light" is a popular children's game. It starts with the host standing at the finish line with their back turned from the other players. When the host calls out "Green Light," the others run as fast as they can towards the finish line. As soon as the host says "Red Light," everyone must immediately stop in their tracks. Anyone who doesn't freeze is out of the game or must go back to the starting line.

Digga D takes inspiration for this song from the game's use in the first episode of the 2021 viral Korean Netflix show Squid Game. The series revolves around a contest where 456 players play a series of children's games for the chance to win a huge cash prize. However, any player that loses a game gets killed.

The first competition is a deadly version of Red Light, Green Light, where anyone caught moving after the host cries "Red Light" is immediately shot dead.
  • The song starts with a sample of Squid Game's host robot doll introducing the game. Then Digga announces the purging of one of the players.

You'll be playin' "Red Light, Green Light"
Player 156, you have been eliminated

Digga is a member of West London drill gang 1011. He disses rival drill collective NGang, also known as 156, by calling out their number.
  • The rest of the song alludes to the common interpretation of "red light" meaning stop and "green light" granting permission to proceed. Digga refers to the traffic light colors in respect of street fighting; the warfare starts when the red light turns green.
  • OfficialBenjiBandz and MacMac Relax created the beat. It marks the first time both producers worked with Digga.
  • Digga D co-directed the video alongside his regular visual collaborator, Teeeezy C. The clip recreates Squid Game's Red Light Green Light scene, with the drill rapper dressed as the show's Front Man character.
