Songfacts®:

  • This song is featured on the Disney ride Pirates of the Caribbean. The ride opened in 1967, and remains one of its most popular attractions. The ride inspired the popular Pirates of the Caribbean movies, which proved much more successful than Disney's utterly forgettable Tower Of Terror movie, which was released in 1997 (starring Kirsten Dunst and Steve Guttenberg), which was based on the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ride at the Disney-MGM Studios. There was also the (also forgettable) Haunted Mansion movie, starring Eddie Murphy released in 2003. >>

  • The lyrics are by Xavier Atencio and the music is by George Bruns. Bruns wrote several Disney theme songs and scores, including "The Junglebook," "Sleeping Beauty," and "The Ballad Of Davy Crockett," which was a #1 US hit for Bill Hayes in 1955. Atencio was an animator at Disney and helped design the rides, including Pirates Of The Caribbean. >>

  • Brian from Boston, MaRegardless of how many new and technologically advanced attractions Disney World develops Pirates Of the Carribean will always be one of my favorites.I really feel I am in another world when I am on this ride.Disney World is a very classy place.I don't get there as often as I would like but it is the best.
  • Leah from Brooklyn, Ny1982: Orange County punk band The Vandals use the song's melody briefly in their song "Pirate's Life", which is about riding the attraction under the influence of LSD

1986: Singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett uses the melody as the opening to his single "Take it Back" which was written for the US America's Cup yachting team.
  • Colin from Old York, EnglandThe film was not based on the song but to an old story/idea that disney had locked up somewhere or something
  • Cassie from Overland Park, KsI love DISNEY!
  • Michelle from Boca Raton, FlI LOVE THIS SONG/RIDE!!!!
