Songfacts®:

  • On June 24, 2016 American DJ Esco dropped a mixtape titled Esco Terrestrial featuring Future (abbreviated to Project E.T.) The record was executive produced by Esco and features the hip-hop artist Future collaborating with a host of other rappers. This collaboration with Lil Uzi Vert is the standout cut and was released as the mixtape's lead single on August 19, 2016.
  • The song was produced by beatmaker Zaytoven, who is a frequent collaborator with many of Atlanta's rappers. He won a Grammy Award in 2011 for his contribution to Usher's Raymond vs. Raymond album, as a co-producer and writer for the single "Papers."
  • The song represents the first time Future has collaborated with Lil Uzi Vert. Future takes the hook while Vert raps the two verses. The only time Esco can be heard is when he joins Future on the intro.
  • The phrase "too much sauce" is repeated throughout the song:

Patek Philippe, the plain one, that's too much sauce
Hermes in the A, that's too much sauce
They let me know before I was famous, I had too much sauce
Audemars, Hublot now, that's too much sauce
That's too much sauce, got too much sauce

Here, the word "sauce" is used to describe someone who has a style and swagger about them. Future is claiming he's always had too much sauce, even before he became famous and started wearing expensive watches and other luxurious brands.
  • DJ Esco and Future know each other well. The video for the Atlanta hip hop artist's DS2 track "Kno The Meaning" is a retelling of the 56 days DJ Esco spent in a Dubai jail for marijuana possession. Esco is referred to as "Future's DJ" in the clip.
