Songfacts®:

  • Doechii kicks off her Alligator Bites Never Heal album with "Stanka Pooh," a song she wrote two years earlier around the time she signed to Top Dawg Entertainment, becoming the first female rapper on their roster. The song deals with her insecurities, as she worries she's be no more than a "TikTok rapper, part-time YouTube actor" (before she posted music online, she did a lot of vlogging on YouTube).

"I was unpacking and combing through things," she told the Dissect Podcast. "I'm talking about my fears: what if I choke on a Slurpie? What if I make it big? I'm going through all of these different things that I'm thinking about in my life. It's this introspective series of thoughts. Nothing with any throughline or narrative intention, just a bunch of different things that I'm thinking in that moment."

"It was just like a random rap that I made," she added. "I thought it was cool. I knew it would mean something later but it didn't really apply at the time."
  • Doechii calls back to childhood memories with the lines:

The Looney Tunes back in stock
    I'm Little Miss Stanka Pooh

The Looney Tunes, including their star, Bugs Bunny, were in commercials for Nike that she remembered.
  • Regarding the line, "I dirty shoes and put 'em back in the box," Doechii said: "It's this metaphor for how I purposely like to destroy and dismantle and dirty shiny things. Just how I came in the industry I like to dirty things up and then put them back on the shelf and leave."
  • The Alligator Bites Never Heal album is structured to take us on an emotional journey through the 19 tracks. The beginning focuses on pain and hurt; the middle part deals with healing; and the end celebrates overcoming difficulties.
