Songfacts®:

  • This Christmas love song finds Dolly Parton snowed in during the holiday. The circumstances haven't upset the country star - in fact she is absolutely delighted as Michael Bublé is stuck inside the cabin with her and he is just as happy. So the pair light up the candles, sit by the fire, and spend a cozy Christmas cuddling together.
  • "Cuddle Up, Cozy Down Christmas" is just one of the many duets included on A Holly Dolly Christmas, Dolly Parton's third festive record following 1984's Once Upon a Christmas and 1990's Home for Christmas. Other guest artists featured on the project include Willie Nelson, Jimmy Fallon, Billy Ray Cyrus, Miley Cyrus and her brother, Randy Parton.
  • Dolly Parton wrote the song solo. She told American Songwriter it originated with her thinking about mothers and their babies as she cuddled one of her little nieces and nephews. Then Dolly started writing "about being there with your little baby, kissing and hugging and all that."

Parton later decided to change the song's tone to a more romantic one. "I cuddled up with Michael Bublé on this one! He did a great job on it. So it made it sexy," she said. "I can only fantasize cuddling up and cozying down with him!"
  • The animated music video shows cartoon versions of Dolly Parton and Michael Bublé hanging out at Holly Dolly's Ski Resort as it snows outside.
  • The song charted in the UK becoming Dolly's first UK singles chart entry since "Together You and I" reached #67 in 2011.
