  • Donavon Frankenreiter became a pro surfer at 16, which didn't sit well with his high school principal. "He made me and my parents make a decision," Frankenreiter said in a Songfacts interview. "What was it going to be, surfing or academics and sports at school? Thank God I had supportive parents. We walked out of that meeting and never looked back. My parents said, 'Go chase your dream and do what you believe in.'"

The life of surfing was good to him, and in his late 20s, he also went pro as a musician, pushed along by fellow surf enthusiast Jack Johnson. Move By Yourself is the title track to his second album; the song is about choosing your own path in life and following your dreams.
