Songfacts®:

  • Texas rapper Dorwin Demarcus Dorrough was born and raised in Dallas. He first experienced success as a basketball player, captaining his High School team. While attending college, he began releasing underground singles, such as "Halle Berry (She's Fine)" and "Do tha Muscle," which achieved some local success. After signing a distribution deal with E1 Music, he achieved his big break with the release of "Walk That Walk," his debut single with the label E1 Music, and its follow-up, this ode to his car.
  • This was Dorrough's first song to chart in the Hot 100. Its climb up the chart coincided with another helping of "Ice Cream" as, on this song's seventh week on the listing, Hannah Montana debuted at #87 with her completely differently flavored "Ice Cream Freeze (Let's Chill)." Other songs with "Ice Cream" in their titles include "Ice Cream Song," The Dynamics (1969), "Incarcerated Scarfaces/Ice Cream," Raekwon, (1995) and "Mr. Ice Cream Man," Master P (1996), all of which also charted on the Hot 100. And if you're hungry for more, check out "Ice Cream" by New Young Pony Club, a Top 40 hit in the UK in 2007, Van Halen's "Ice Cream Man" (1978) and Glasvegas' "Ice Cream Van" (2008).
