Songfacts®:

  • This Compton track features a hook sung by South African born songstress Candice Pillay and a verse by Eminem. Pillay told MTV News: "If you listen to 'Medicine Man' compared to everything else on the album, it's a very different record. I feel like it's a younger generation's record. Of course, Dre loved it. And the only person who could fit on that record is Em."

She added regarding Eminem's verse: "He gave us a plethora of stuff to choose from and then he went back and forth. And then we finally went with the verse that you hear."
  • Eminem came under fire for his controversial verse, which features lyrics about rape. ("Ain't no one safe from, non-believers there ain't none. I even make the bitches I rape cum") he rhymes. The Detroit native has form for provocative rhymes about sexual assault. He was previously criticized for a scene where he attempts to rape Iggy Azalea on the Bad Meets Evil Shady XV track, "Vegas."
  • The song title plays on Dr. Dre's name in a similar fashion to another Eminem-featuring cut, "I Need a Doctor."
