  • Patoka, Illinois native Drew Baldridge packed up and headed to Nashville at 18, chasing his country music dreams. He signed with indie label Cold River, and his 2016 album Dirt On Us hit #11 on Billboard's Country Albums chart. But when Cold River shut down in 2019, Baldridge had to regroup after parting ways with his manager and booking agent. This self-released song became his first single to reach the Top 10 of Billboard's Country Airplay chart.
  • "She's Somebody's Daughter" is a sentimental ballad that challenges the idea of women being solely defined by their looks or their hookups. Baldridge reminds men that the girls they encounter are daughters cherished by their families, and deserve to be treated well.

"I just try to make music for people's souls," Baldridge told People. "I try to create music that I hope that God wants me to create that will have an impact. I used to pray that God would let me make music that means something and that somebody needs."
  • After writing the song with Jimmy Yeary and Cameron Jaymes, Baldridge recorded "She's Somebody's Daughter" in 2019. He hesitated to release it because of a similarly titled song by Tenille Townes. Instead, it quietly went on streaming platforms.

"2019 we put this song out and I wanted it to be the single when I was still at Cold River," Baldridge told Entertainment Focus. "I get in my car after recording it and pulled up the Country Aircheck charts to see what else was out there going to radio and there was this artist called Tenille Townes who was sending her song 'Somebody's Daughter' to radio – I was, like, 'You've got to be freakin' kidding me!' So I decided we couldn't do anything with it really so we released it and it just sat there."
  • In 2021, Baldridge re-recorded the track for his wedding, creating "She's Somebody's Daughter (Wedding Version)" for his bride and her dad's dance. The emotional rendition struck a chord online.

"On our honeymoon, I posted it on TikTok, and it got 10 million views in a day," Baldridge told Billboard. "All these girls started this trend called the 'daughter trend,' where they would act out the song and then in the chorus, they'd have pictures of growing up with their dad. Before long, we had four or five hundred million plays on TikTok, and I had 100 million streams."
  • Baldridge re-recorded "She's Somebody's Daughter (Reimagined)" in late 2022 to ride the wave of its viral success. This version added more instrumentation, perfect for radio play. At a Fireman's Picnic festival near St. Louis in 2023, fans sang every word. "I immediately got off stage, and I'm like 'You know what? I can't get labels as excited about this as I am... Screw it. I'm just going to do it myself.'" Baldridge said.

He founded his own label, Lyric Ridge, with help from former MCA Nashville promoter Louie Newman, and released "She's Somebody's Daughter (Reimagined)" on August 21, 2023.
  • Baldridge watched the song slowly climb the charts. It eventually reached the Top 10 of Billboard's Country Airplay chart, a rare feat for a self-released single since the chart's inception in 1990. The last time it happened was in 2017 with Aaron Watson's "Outta Style."
