Songfacts®:

  • On August 11, 2014, the comedian and actor Robin Williams committed suicide at his home in Paradise Cay, California. This song is Patterson Hood's reaction to the tragedy. He told Uncut magazine:

"I wrote it the night he passed away. It was a pretty day, and I was driving home when it came on the radio that Robin Williams had committed suicide. I thought, goddam, he's one of the guys that makes us forget our troubles, y ' know?

My pet cause is Nuci's Space, an organization doing suicide prevention for musicians and artists in Athens, Georgia. We've done benefits for it almost every year the band's been together, so it's something hit close to our hearts."
  • The entertainment world was rocked by the news of Robin Williams' suicide. Other songs inspired by his passing include:

"Tears Of A Clown" by Iron Maiden

"Robin Williams" by Cee Lo Green

"Drag Me To The Grave" by Black Veil Brides.
