Songfacts®:

  • "In Disbelief" is track two on the Canadian progressive rock band Druckfarben's sophomore album, Second Sound. It was co-written by their guitarist, Ed Bernard; their keyboardist, Will Hare; and lead singer, Phil Naro. Hare and Naro sent the song to Bernard, which he liked right away. In our interview with Bernard, he explained the changes he made to the tune. "I switched a couple of things around on it," he said. "If you listen to the last verse of that song after all the instrumental stuff in the middle that was the way all the verses were originally, but I thought it was a little crowded. Phil's singing his little heart out there so I calmed down the verses."
  • Talking about the song's message of encouragement, Ed Bernard said, "It's generally just about not letting things get you down and just trying to have a positive outlook about everything. It's self-explanatory – 'Everything can go wrong, you just carry on' sort of thing."

Bernard also explained why he added a dark and depressing tone to the bridge of the tune. "I try to be a happy guy but you don't always want things to be that way," he said. "Things can't be too uplifting or we won't be taken seriously."
