Songfacts®:

  • This was co-written and produced by Justin Timberlake, who also provided backing vocals on this track. Vocalist Simon Le Bon recalled that Timberlake was drunk when he agreed to do "Falling Down." He told Q Magazine (February 2008): "We were in a lock-in after he'd done his (Birmingham) show. He'd had half a bottle of malt when he said, 'Let's write another song for your album.'"
  • Timberlake was born in 1981, the same year Duran Duran released their first album.
  • The video for "Falling Down" was shot in Los Angeles and depicts the theme of models in rehab. However the original version featuring topless models was banned by many music networks, so they were forced to shoot a new less controversial version. Simon Le Bon told the New Musical Express: "The concept of models in rehab has so much to do with what the song's about. It's very sad but there's a kind of beauty in it as well."
  • Timbaland produced three of the other tracks on Red Carpet Massacre. Le Bon told Reuters that the band is always looking ahead and aware of new music: "We tend to look at other artists who are happening now and making great records, of which Timbaland and Justin Timberlake have been at the forefront over the past few years. So as soon as we got the opportunity to work with them it was like 'Yeah, who wouldn't?'"

  • Barb from Philadelphia, PaI love Duran Duran! Red Carpet Massacre is a great album. Lots of fantastic songs, including this one. My favorite on this album is She's Too Much. Something about that song I just love.
  • Stephanie from Naselle, WaAs I have learned from experience, this song is no representative for the bulk of Red Carpet Massacre, which, by the way, is like Justin Timberlake's album of what he'd like to hear Duran Duran do. Bleh. I wanted a Duran Duran cd, not a JT/DD cd.
  • Mel from Riverbank, CaSo funny, my 7-year-old absolutely loves this song. He put it on one of his CD mixes and plays it whenever we have itunes on. It's definitely going on his ipod :)
  • Amanda from Evergreen, Coi think it is an amazing song because it relates to my life SO much!!!!
