Songfacts®:

  • This is the second single from the British pop-rock band Duran Duran's thirteenth studio album, All You Need Is Now. Keyboardist Nick Rhodes recalled to Genero.tv that he and bass player John Taylor were talking about the song "and he said, 'it needs a title that is the sort of phrase you'd see on the cover of Italian Vogue. Girl... girl panic.' And there was something about the urgency of that," he continued "and adding an exclamation mark in a sort of Russ Meyer way, that was hugely appealing."
  • All You Need Is Now was produced by long term Duran Duran devotee Mark Ronson. Taylor recalled to Genero.tv that this song "reminded Mark more than any of the other musical ideas, of what he really loved about early Duran Duran. Mark was always quite clear, he wanted a return to 'Rio'."
  • Swedish director Jonas Åkerlund, who has previously worked with Metallica, Rammstein and the Prodigy, was responsible for the video, which reunites five of the world's top supermodels: Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Eva Herzigova, Helena Christensen and singer Simon Le Bon's wife Yasmin. The clip was shot in London, in and around The Savoy Hotel, over two days earlier this summer and finds the five girls taking on the roles of the members of Duran Duran, in a day-in-the-life-of expose. Wanna know who's who? Crawford plays John Taylor, Christensen hits the drums as Roger Taylor, Herzigova channels Nick Rhodes, Campbell is Simon Le Bon, while Yasmin is former lead guitarist Andy Taylor.
  • This was one of the first things that Mark Ronson wrote with Duran Duran. He told Billboard magazine: "Simon re-wrote the lyrics to this song five or six times. But we realized that the song was supposed to be about sex, so he rewrote them again at the last minute."

Ronson added: "If you listen closely to the bridge, in the background you can hear Don Johnson doing cocaine off of a speedboat dashboard."
