Songfacts®:

  • As an actress, Dylan Conrique first garnered recognition for her role as Kayla on the popular web series Chicken Girls. She's also released original songs such as "Baby Blue" and "Advice From The Internet." "Birthday Cake" became Conrique's first hit single after it went viral on TikTok.
  • Conrique wrote the heartbreaking piano ballad to encourage her best friend, who lost her mom to cervical cancer when she was 12. Here, Dylan urges her friend to live her life to the fullest in her mom's memory.

Like she made it to 48
    Still made your birthday cake
  • Conrique learned the piano so she could play "Birthday Cake" for her friends and family. "The toughest part was learning how to do two things at once, singing and playing the piano," she told Sweety High. "It was definitely a struggle at first, but it was such a fun process and I'm so happy that I can play it now."
  • Conrique's friend realized the song's message could benefit other people experiencing loss too, and told the singer to release it. So, two years after Conrique originally wrote the song, she dropped it as a single on February 2, 2022.
  • Conrique teamed up with the Los Angeles-based production duo Supperclub to record the single. They enhanced the production, including adding violins and making the song more emotional.
