Songfacts®:

  • This track is about Hugh Everett III, the dad of Eels mainman Mark Everett, with whom he had a strained relationship during his childhood. Everett's father was a quantum physicist who proposed the many worlds theory, which is the idea that there are infinite parallel universes, when he was just 24. He was rubbished by the scientific establishment, and only taken seriously after his death. He suffered a fatal heart attack at home in 1982 and the teenage Mark discovered his body. In 2007 Everett fronted a film Parallel Universes, Parallel Lives for the BBC, in which he went on a voyage of discovery to find out more about the father he hardly knew.
