Songfacts®:

  • "Hay Chewed" is an uptempo blues/jazzy instrumental track which follows on from "Gulliver" and runs into the album's "Reprise". Although Elton plays piano on it, it is dominated by Caleb Quaye on lead guitar and Don Fay on sax. It has been suggested the title is a pun on "Hey Jude," to which it bears no resemblance at all.
  • When Empty Sky was reissued in 1995, its title was given erroneously as "It's Hay Chewed." >>>
