Songfacts®:

  • Having achieved her first #1 single when she featured as guest vocalist on Professor Green's "Read All About It," Sandé closes her debut album with a continuation of the song. She told Q magazine: "I wanted to think about what my version of the song was, how can I make it personal, and that's what I loved about it, how personal it was."
  • Why Pt. III and not Pt. II? Professor Green had already recorded an Alternative Acoustic Version with Brighton based band Fink titled "Read All About It (Pt. II)" for Q magazine.
  • The Our Version Of Events album title is taken from one of this song's lyrics; "Let's get the TV & the radio to play our tune again, It's about time we got some airplay of our version of events." Sandé told the Daily Record that the record name, "came out when I was having breakfast with Naughty Boy, the producer, and my A&R (artistic adviser) guy. I think it is the perfect title."
  • Our Version Of Events debuted at #1 on February 19, 2012 on the UK Albums Chart, selling 113,319 copies. After dropping to #2 in its second week, it returned to the top spot in its third frame. On May 27, 15 weeks after the album was first released, it climbed back to pole position. However, it only sold 13,430 copies in the process of doing so, the lowest total since July 2, 1994, when Ace Of Base sold 12,042 copies with their chart-topping album Happy Nation.
  • Sandé performed the song during the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics. She sung stood atop a moving truck, which was wrapped in newspaper print as highlights from the 16 days of the games flashed onto screens all around the stadium.
  • Our Version Of Events was the top-selling album of 2012 in the UK with 1.4 million copies sold. It was followed by Adele's 21 at #2 and Ed Sheeran's + at #3.
  • The song returned to the UK top 20 in April 2013 after Hungarian shadow theatre troupe, Attraction, performed their routine to the tune on ITV's Britain's Got Talent show.
  • Our Version Of Events logged up 66 consecutive weeks on the top 10 of the UK album chart, overtaking a longstanding record held by The Beatles' Please Please Me for the most enduring Top 10 run by a debut album ever.

Sandé 's record was taken by Sam Smith in September 2015 when his debut album In The Lonely Hour spent its 67th consecutive week in the UK Top Ten.

  • Leigh from Cape Town, South AfricaThis song inspires me so much. To me it speaks about perseverance and carrying on in the face of adversity, about being underestimated for whatever reason and striving on regardless of gossip or criticism. In my own life I've been criticized and mocked but it's made me stronger and even more determined to succeed.
