Songfacts®:

  • This bluesy track is a cover of an unreleased song by J.J. Cale, who passed away in 2013 at age 74. The recording originated when Clapton was working on his 2014 The Breeze record. "When I did this J.J. album called The Breeze, which was a tribute to J.J. Cale, when I met up with his wife, Christine, I said, 'Is there anything lying about that I could maybe finish or work with?' She gave me two CDs of unreleased material which is all fantastic," Clapton explained to Billboard magazine. "We covered 'Somebody's Knockin'."
  • Clapton held Cale in very high regard and recorded a number of the Oklahoma songwriter and guitarist's songs including "After Midnight," "Cocaine" and "I'll Make Love To You Anytime." Clapton also did a joint album with Cale in 2006 titled The Road To Escondido.
