Songfacts®:

  • Fourteen years after Madonna used the title, Eve released her "Who's That Girl?" as the lead single from her second album, Scorpion. With a super-catchy, horn-heavy hook, the song did well, but the next single, her Gwen Stefani collaboration "Let Me Blow Ya Mind," was the blockbuster, going to #2 in America.

Eve was the first woman signed to the Ruff Ryders label, home to DMX. Her 1999 debut album went to #1 in America.
  • On this song, Eve brags on her hustle, and how she can be so bad-ass and classy at the same time. It was an impressive feat, and her balance of grit and fashion served her well when she moved into movies and TV. In 2003 she got her own show, Eve, on the UPN network.
  • Eve wrote this song with three Ruff Ryders producers, all with cool nicknames:

    Sheldon "Teflon" Harris
    Darrin "Dee" Dean
    Jay "Icepick" Jackson

Dean was a founder of the label.
  • The music video is quite a production, with a tiger, a Ducati, and a cartoon avatar of Eve. It was directed by Diane Martel, who also did Christina Aguilera's "Genie in a Bottle" and Mariah Carey's "Dreamlover."
