Songfacts®:

  • Though the lyrics appear to refer to Ashlee Simpson and their son Bronx, Pete Wentz wrote this back in 2007, before their child was conceived.
  • In a video interview lyricist Pete Wentz told the New Musical Express cryptically that "people can read what they like into certain things, so I guess Winona could be anyone for you, Winona for me is reality but I'm my own Winona."
  • Because Wentz used the word Winona in the title, some fans have interpreted this song as Wentz comparing his relationship with Ashlee Simpson to that of Winona Ryder and Johnny Depp. The two Hollywood stars had a much-publicized relationship in the early 1990s.
  • Fall Out Boy went on hiatus after touring in support of Folie à Deux, their fourth studio album. According to lead singer Patrick Stump, audiences "openly hated" the new songs and nearly booed the band off stage during the tour. They triumphantly returned in 2013 with the #1 album Save Rock And Roll.
