Songfacts®:

  • "If You're Gonne Lie" is about loving someone so much that you're in denial about their lies and infidelity.

I kinda like it when you hurt me
I start believing all your stories
But I'd rather hear you lie than hear you say goodbye to me
    So if you're gonna lie
Then do it in my bed

The song is a prequel to Fletcher's breakthrough hit "Undrunk" and explains why she broke up with her cheating lover.
  • Fletcher wrote the two songs on consecutive days at a studio in New York's Koreatown following her painful breakup. She explained to MTV News:

"'If You're Gonna Lie' is about that denial phase of a relationship where you know things are getting kind of sketchy. You know they're cheating on you and texting other people, but you would rather have them lie to you and lie to yourself than have them not be in your life."
