Songfacts®:

  • This bluesy song came from a riff that had been hanging around for a couple of years. Vocalist Yannis Philippakis wanted "Like Lightning" to have a sense of paranoia. He told Apple Music he felt the music's "earthquake stomp" was the perfect accompaniment to the lyrics about being on the run. "There are these forces out to get you and you've got to keep moving, you've got to take care of yourself," Philippakis said. "You've got to survive, basically."
  • The animated video paints a picture of a dystopian future as a result of climate change. The band has form for campaigning against climate change. During the 2019 Mercury Prize ceremony, Foals held up a banner that read: "No music on a dead planet."
