  • This '90s trip-hop-indebted song represented a slight shift in Foxes' songwriting. "I don't usually write relationship songs but I wrote this song after having a bit of a spat with my ex-boyfriend," she explained. "It's weird because it's probably one of the only ones that's based on feeling as if someone's given up on a relationship. It's about people saying they would try to make it work until there was nothing left and sticking it out until the echo of our relationship is still making a sound. It's more about feeling your relationship is falling apart and just asking for them to sort of believe in it a bit more."
  • Foxes explained the song title to Artist Direct: "I had this idea in my head about the 'Echo' of a relationship, and it stuck with me," she said. "I basically felt like the guy didn't really believe in the relationship enough. I felt like I was the only one making an effort. There's a line that says, 'Didn't you say you'd stay until we heard the last echo?' You'll stay until the 'Echo' is gone."

"It's almost like saying, 'Why wouldn't you stay until you heard the last pieces of our relationship?' It reminded me of an echo in that sense," Foxes added. "That's how the song came about."
