Many of the tracks on Hundred More Years are focused on lifting up others, and this song is about being the help someone needs. Battistelli told American Songwriter magazine about the tune: "'Angel By Your Side' is a song I wrote very early on in the process, and it's a special song. It's about being there for someone when they're going through a difficult time. I think everyone has been there to some degree, and I think the song really encourages and inspires."
Battistelli won the 2011 Dove Awards for Artist of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year about a month after the Hundred More Years album was released. She told us: "It's an incredible honor, but I try not to think about it too much or put too much pressure on myself. But you can't get away from a little bit of added, 'Oh, gosh, now they're all watching, I can't mess up now.' But I try not to live in that place." (See our full Francesca Battistelli interview.)
