Songfacts®:

  • "Tu Sancho" is a story of forbidden romance, as frontman JOP invites a woman to cheat on her partner with him, promising luxury and adventure. It's all very forbidden fruit, with lyrics that swagger their way through infidelity, dressed up in streetwise charm and a touch of dark romantic flair.
  • The phrase "Tu Sancho" never actually appears in the song, which might seem odd until you learn that in Mexican slang, a "sancho" is the other man, the fellow your wife or girlfriend may or may not be seeing while you're at work. Think "side piece" or "sneaky link."
  • Fuerza Regida sampled Ellie Goulding's vocals from her 2012 track "Don't Say a Word" and wove them seamlessly into the song. "In hip-hop and reggaeton, everybody uses samples," JOP told Rolling Stone. "In our genre, nobody does."

The result, he said, added "a little extra sauce" to the mix, which is an understated way to describe blending British electropop with norteño swagger.
  • The track appears on Fuerza Regida's ninth album, 111xpantia. The title comes from Náhuatl, the ancient language of the Aztecs, and roughly means "to manifest." And that's more or less what the group has done: they've taken their street-heavy roots, sprinkled in some hip-hop aesthetics, and added banjo and synthesizers for good measure. It's like if Tupac had teamed up with a Mariachi band in a neon-lit honky-tonk.
  • 111xpantia reached #2 on the all-genre Billboard 200, making it the highest-charting Spanish-language album by a duo or group in the chart's history.
