Songfacts®:

  • "The Grave And The Constant" was the first song Fun Lovin' Criminals recorded. It's about lead singer Huey Morgan's time in the Marines and his journey that led him to the band. After his time in the Marines, Morgan went to New York City where he worked in clubs, mostly as a bartender. He formed the band with multi-instrumentalist Brian "Fast" Leiser and drummer Steve Borgovini. At first, they performed in the clubs, but they earned a record deal and issued their first album, Come Find Yourself, in 1996. Many of their songs tell outlandish stories inspired by movies and other works of fiction, but this one is more true-to-life, relating to Morgan's experience.
  • The big hit from the Come Find Yourself album was "Scooby Snacks," which was the only song to get much attention in America. Surprisingly, they fared far better in Europe, which they ended up making their base. In the UK, they had a string of hits and became a big live draw.
  • The group made a very low-budget video for this song. Edited to look like a silent movie, it shows them in the woods cavorting with someone in a bear suit.
