Songfacts®:

  • The first single from Garth Brooks' 11th album jumps right into party mode as the country star gets ready to let everything go after a hard week.

Somebody's got to start the weekend
    Somebody's got to unwind
Somebody's got to find that honky-tonk out on the county line

"All Day Long," which Brooks co-wrote is a throwback to his early days. He described the song's vibe as a mixture of his early '90s tracks "Two of a Kind, Workin' on a Full House," "Ain't Goin' Down ('Til the Sun Comes Up)" and "Callin' Baton Rouge."
  • The song began coming to life during Brooks' set in a Broadway honky-tonk after the 2018 Country Radio Seminar. He recalled:

"We were playing all the stuff that we used to play in the honky-tonks, and hearing it bounce off those brick walls and hearing those people sing along, I said, 'You know what? What we need is a good damn honky-tonk song.' So that's what we went to do."
  • Brooks co-wrote the song with Mitch Rossell ("Ask Me How I Know") and Bryan Kennedy ("The Beaches of Cheyenne").
