Songfacts®:

  • Garth Brooks wrote this uptempo and suggestive song with Kim Williams, Kent Blazy, Steve Dorff and Victoria Shaw. It was released as the first single from Gunslinger on October 13, 2016.
  • The decision to lead the album with this song was bittersweet for Brooks as Williams, who had written several of the singer's' biggest hits, passed away in February 2016. It was to be the last tune they wrote together. "I've got to tell you, I love love love this song, but probably my greatest joy is the fact that this is a Kim Williams song," Brooks admitted. "Not only did it make this record, it's the first single off this record."
  • The album title came to Brooks when somebody asked him what his favorite thing was about being on the road. "I said, 'It just feels good to be out there being a gunslinger again. Just aiming with the heart and shooting from the hip, that's what you do on the stage, right? You're a gunslinger out there. And each show's different, and you just shoot from the hip all night long,'" Brooks explained. "As soon I said it, I knew that was the album title right there."
