  • This haunting, low-key song of romantic confusion and fear of being hurt has been interpreted many different ways, but Michael revealed the true meaning during the BBC One special for his concert at The Palais Garnier in Paris in 2014, when he said: "I know 'Cowboys and Angels' is one of people's favorites but I don't think anyone could possibly understand what it's about. In reality, it's about a strange love triangle involving a woman who's madly in love with me and a man who I was madly in love with and none of it came to anything, but I got a good song out of it."

Personally it reaches out to me and the final line is sums up the whole song, 'Please be stronger than your past, the future may still give you a chance'. Twenty years on and I still identify with this song more than probably any other.
