Songfacts®:

  • "New Rush" is the first single from the New Zealand singer Gin Wigmore's third album. After her second album, Gravel & Wine, was released in 2011, she found herself living in Sydney with the man she planned to marry. Over time, Wigmore felt stifled by the relationship, and called off the wedding. This song is about that time when she felt like she was just going through the motions and in search of a "new rush" - something to get her excited again.

In 2013, Wigmore moved to Los Angeles and took up with Letlive frontman Jason Butler. The following year, they eloped in Hawaii.
  • In our interview with Gin Wigmore, she said this song is about "Stepping into this new chapter of my life." Said Wigmore: "Late twenties is an interesting time of life. Very confronting to say the least! It's kind of your 'do or die' moment, and 'New Rush' symbolizes that confrontation with my own life and where I want to take it."
  • The music video was directed by Zachariah de Cairo, who also did her clip for "Written in the Water." In the video, a wounded Wigmore is pursued through the woods, eventually collapsing in a field. She is then picked up and carried off by a hunter played by Dwayne Johnson.
