Songfacts®:

  • After many years of performing under the banner of Miami Sound Machine, this was the first single released by Gloria Estefan under her own name only. The shift of focus was because she was the only member of the original line-up left after the band's leader and her husband Emilio pulled out to produce.
  • The adult contemporary soft-pop song was the first solo #1 single for Gloria Estefan. Her previous chart-topper, "Anything For You," was performed with Miami Sound Machine. Estefan penned the song herself.
  • Estefan also recorded a Spanish version of the song, "Si Voy a Perderte," which reached #1 on Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks chart and a Portuguese version, "Se Tenho que Perder" that was released as a single in Brazil.
  • Estefan earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance regarding this song, but lost against Bonnie Raitt's "Nick of Time."
  • The song was performed in 'The Spanish Teacher' episode of Glee, which was broadcast on February 7, 2012.
