Songfacts®:

  • It's not in the movie, but "Goin' Down" was written for Mission: Impossible 2 and first appeared on the soundtrack in May 2000. A few months later it appeared on Godsmack's Awake album.
  • The lyrics were written by Godsmack lead singer Sully Erna, and the music by Erna, bass player Robbie Merrill and guitarist Tony Rambola. The Mission: Impossible 2 soundtrack is filled with modern metal, anchored by Metallica's "I Disappear" and Limp Bizkit's "Take A Look Around."

"Goin' Down" has a rather vague lyric about feeling disoriented that connects with the themes of uncertainty and danger in the film.

  • Kayla from Oklahoma City, OkGodsmack has 53 songs, counting all four alblums. "Godsmack", "Awake", "Faceless", "The Other Side", and "IV".
  • Jaxx from Manchester, Nhi bet they just cut the old drummer and replaced it with either sully's drumming or shannon's drumming so they wouldnt have to pay the old drummer for using his stuff later, cause they fired him.
  • Jeff from Helena, Mthow many songs does godsmack have? i only count 50.
  • Nick from Paramus, NjWhat I said was that maybe they recorded all of the song and released it on the soundtrack but later Tommy realized he didn't like the way he played or something so he recorded the drums again and replaced the original drum track with the new one. Hey, bands do that sometimes.
Either way, the track was definately produced differently. Give 'em a listen if you own both CD's.
  • Christina from Hamilton, MtThis is Godsmack we are talking about here. Why would they pre-record the drums. They are all original, and they do it all at one time. I also heard that this song is about a bad relationship.
  • Nick from Paramus, NjThis song was actually on the rough version of their Self-Titled album called "All Wound Up"(1996), but didn't make the final cut for their Self-Titled major release and was kept for the MI-2 soundtrack and finally made a track on the Awake album.(2000)
  • Nick from Paramus, NjI'm not sure but I think the drums were re-recorded for the Awake album, they sound different. The track also seems to have been produced differently it seems to have a darker and deeper tone on the album. Did anyone else notice this?
