Songfacts®:

  • Good Neighbours are a London-based duo comprising Oli Fox and Scott Verrill. They released this song as their debut single on January 17, 2024.
  • "Home" revolves around the theme of homesickness. It delves into the familiar ache of missing a place that holds special memories.
  • The lyric "darling won't you take me home," instantly resonated with listeners, sparking a viral trend on TikTok. Users filmed themselves singing along, fueled by the song's universal emotions.
  • Oli Fox and Scott Verrill wrote the song right after Fox had been fired from one of his many part-time jobs. "I met Scott in the studio, where he was looping the three piano chords, which sounded the polar opposite of my mood," Fox told Apple Music. "So I grabbed the mic and tried to write a song that would lift my spirits."
  • The chorus for "Home" fell out quickly. "I'd returned home for a funeral in Essex for a few days and I was feeling awful about home as a location," Fox told NME. "When I returned to London, I hugged my then-girlfriend and my whole body just relaxed. I had this visceral sensation and there was this feeling that maybe home is not simply a place; it can be a person too. That became the sentiment of the song."

Fox and Verrill thought the chorus was strong, but decided to put it on hold. However, when they shared a TikTok clip of the chorus, it blew up, prompting them to finish the song.

"People were commenting that it spoke to them," said Fox. "It confirmed to us that 'home' as a concept works in different contexts. So, we revisited it. It's very odd to work in retrospect, but we had to figure out what the verses would say."
