Songfacts®:

  • Grupo Frontera is an ensemble from McAllen, a Texas town on the Mexican border, comprising six members: Beto, Juan Javier Cantu, Carlos Frontera, Payo, Julian Pena Jr. and Carlos Zamora. This song, which they released independently, became their first Hot 100 hit after it went viral on TikTok.
  • On "No Se Va," Grupo Frontera laments a memory of a former romantic partner that won't disappear. "No Se Va" translates to "it doesn't go away."
  • The Colombian folk-pop group Morat originally recorded "No Se Va" for their Balas perdidas album. Released as a single on March 7, 2019, it didn't chart.
  • Grupo Frontera covered "No Se Va" in a norteño style. Norteño is a regional Mexican genre related to polka and Mexican folk music.

"We practiced that song just 16 hours before recording it," Peno told Billboard. "Payo began singing it, then I added rhythms with the congas, and then Beto followed with the bajo quinto, and we all stared at each other thinking, 'Wow, this sounds cool.' We practiced it three times on a Wednesday, and the next day we recorded it live in one take."
  • When "No Se Va" entered the Hot 100, it became the fifth regional Mexican song to reach the listing. The previous four were:

2021 "Botella Tras Botella" by Christian Nodal and Gera MX (#60)

2021 "Está Dañada" by Ivan Cornejo (#61)

2021 "Ya Superame (En Vivo Desde Culiacan, Sinaloa" by Grupo Firme (#91)

2022 "Soy El Unico" by Yahritza y Su Esencia (#20)
  • Grupo Frontera and Morat performed the song live together for the first time during the Colombian folk-pop group's Si Ayer Fuera Hoy tour stop in San Antonio, Texas, on February 2, 2023.
