Hailee Steinfeld

  • Hailee Steinfeld got started as an actress, starring in the 2010 Coen Brothers remake of the Western True Grit, when she was just 13. The movie is, well, gritty, but Steinfeld had a great time making it. "I could not think of a better first movie experience," she said.
  • We found out Steinfeld could sing when she appeared in the 2015 movie Pitch Perfect 2 as Emily Junk, who joins the Barden Bellas, an a capella group. A few months later she released her first single, "Love Myself." In 2017, Steinfeld reprised her role as Emily Junk in Pitch Perfect 3.
  • Steinfeld is part of some blockbuster movies. She played Charlie Watson in Bumblebee, Hawkeye in The Marvels, and is the voice of Gwen Stacy in the Spider-Man: Spider-Verse franchise. She's been in some smaller movies as well - we recommend The Edge Of Seventeen from 2016.
  • She's not related to Jerry Seinfeld. In fact, they have different last names - she's Steinfeld, not Seinfeld.
  • Her first musical performance in a movie came in the 2013 film Begin Again, where she plays some electric guitar in a rooftop scene. Steinfeld really did play the guitar in the film, taking about a week to learn the instrument well enough to pull it off. She picks up new skill pretty quickly; for her role in Hawkeye, she learned archery.
  • Steinfeld is part of a select club of singer/actors with multiple songs that have been streamed over a billion times ("Starving," "Let Me Go"), and with movies that have combined to make over $1 billion at the box office.
  • Her early songs she didn't have a hand in writing, but Steinfeld worked on the craft and got her first songwriting credit on her 2017 single "Most Girls." She's co-written most of her own songs since, including "Capital Letters" and "Afterlife."

"My music is me, and it's only getting more real," she told Wired in 2019. "I love that I'm able to use that as an outlet of self expression in a way that I don't necessarily or can't really do in my acting."
  • She was homeschooled starting from the middle of sixth grade, when she got the role in True Grit.
  • Her ancestry is a bouillabaisse that includes Filipino, African, Russian Jewish, German and Scottish.
  • Steinfeld coupled up with Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen sometime around the summer of 2023 but they kept it low-key until July 2024 when Allen made it Instagram official. They announced their engagement that November.
