  • This humorous song is from the wedding scene in the David Heneker musical Half A Sixpence. The title refers to the action of taking a wedding photograph at the turn of the Twentieth Century, when the story is set – no digital cameras then!
  • Half A Sixpence was first performed at the Cambridge Theatre, London, on March 21, 1963; later the show was transferred to Broadway, and also made into a film, which was released in 1967. "Flash, Bang Wallop!" also describes several other wedding photographs, including the marriage of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. This particular verse was dropped from the film version. >>>
