Songfacts®:

  • "He Could Be The One" is the biggest hit from the Disney Channel series Hannah Montana, starring Miley Cyrus as Miley Stewart, a seemingly regular girl who is actually the pop star Hannah Montana. The song is part of the show's third season; by this time Cyrus was releasing music under her own name as well. She rose to superstar status in 2013 (two years after the show ended) with her #1 hit "Wrecking Ball," but it was her alter ego who earned her first Top 10 hit when "He Could Be The One" went to #10.
  • The song was taken from a special extra-length episode of Hannah Montana, also titled He Could Be the One. In the storyline, Hannah starts having feelings for her bandmate Jesse, and gets herself confused as she is still dating Jake Ryan. Robby helps Miley to listen to her heart and chose the guy who could "be the one."

It was a little unusual for a song from the show to synch so well with the plot; for the most part, the songs on the show were chosen for their hit potential and sung by Hannah in concerts so they didn't affect the plot. So the primary objective for the songwriters was coming up with a hit song that a teenage girl would sing - they usually didn't have to worry about what was going on in the episode.
  • Hannah Montana lasted four seasons and opened the floodgates for teen actresses to become singing stars. Arianna Grande, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter all followed.
  • The song was written by American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi and Mitch Allan, who is lead singer of the band SR-71. Other songs that DioGuardi and Allan have penned together include Kris Allen's debut single, "No Boundaries" and the Jonas Brothers track from the Camp Rock movie, "Play My Music."
